Loligo forbesii, also known as the Veined Squid, is a species of squid in the family Loliginidae. They reach a maximum mantle length of 90 cm, with the average at about 40 cm. Geographically, the squid can be found around the British Isles, the Mediterranean, and extends towards the East African coast and Atlantic Ocean. Within the Celtic Sea L. forbesii is one of the two most abundant cephalopods.[2]
They reside at depths of 10–500 m. Sexual maturity is reached from 11–14 months; the average life span is 1.5 years. The species congregates on the sea floor to mate, with females producing up to 100,000 eggs. Hatchlings are between 5 mm and 7 mm.[3]
